Ryan Cole | Junior Architectural Designer
Initially joining Roots on a yearlong placement from university in 2015 Ryan has become an integral member of the team, working on a broad cross section of our projects at various stages in their development.
Much to our delight Ryan decided to stay on with Roots for a second year and further build up his experience in professional practice. This extended term has given Ryan an opportunity to work with greater responsibility within the office and take a lead on integrating Building Information Modeling (BIM) software into the everyday operations at Roots.
Ryan is highly motivated member of the team with a drive to learn all he can about construction and the best use of materials. His presentation skills in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and have also helped to raise the standard of renderings of our proposed projects.
We first met Ryan in 2014 when he was successfully granted a scholarship from the Mackintosh School of Architecture to join us at Tog Studio; a live-build course run by Roots. Ryan helped us to build ‘The Noust’ Community Boathouse on the Isle of Tiree, which gained national recognition, and a Scottish Design Award & Glasgow Institute of Architects Design Award.
Since then Ryan has participated in the building of ‘The Kettle’ café-kiosk in Oban before taking on a construction internship with Roots & CKR Island Construction on Tiree in 2015. Ryan’s dedication and attention to detail both on site and in the office made him an ideal candidate for helping to grow Roots as a business.
