Commendation for Iona Affordable Housing

In June we travelled to Edinburgh hopeful that the five affordable homes we designed for Iona Housing Partnership & West Highland Housing Association would gain some recognition at the 2017 Saltire Society Housing Awards.  The Glebe houses were fifteen years in the making and are only here thanks to tremendous fundraising efforts and drive from all involved.

The project was awarded a Commendation in the category of 'Multiple Housing' development in recognition of its design excellence.  The houses were designed to be efficient and cost-effective whilst delivering a spacious living environment that would support island living.  Roots are thrilled that the hard work of everyone involved has been acknowledged and celebrated.

Housing is a big issue on the island. It was really important that we had decent houses for people to live in to keep young families on the island, and keep the island vibrant. There was a lot of thought put into the layout of the houses and how they would function for families.
Its the design that I’m most proud of... from the outside the houses look good and they fit right into the area... and on the inside the spaces are fantastic.
