It’s official Tiree’s Noust Boathouse has been picked for the Scotland Squad!
The Noust Community Boathouse we designed and built on Tiree has been picked to represent Scotland in the Scottish Pavilion at the 2016 Venice Biennale.
The Scottish Pavilion exhibition ‘Prospect North’ was designed by Lateral North and showcases the best in innovative community projects in Scotland. The exhibition also asks whether we should draw closer connections to our Nordic neighbours as we consider Scotland’s Future and place in the world.
The interactive exhibition, funded by Architecture + Design Scotland & the Scottish Government features an extruded map of Scotland constructed by Podbox that forms the backdrop for augmented reality animations that run through smart phones. Each phone tells the story of a different community project in Scotland. There was also the opportunity for visitors from the exhibition to be transported into a computer generated house or to views over a croft in Skye through the virtual reality animal headsets, which, rather amusingly, disguised the viewer as an Elk, a bear or a unicorn, the national animals of Scotland, Norway and Finland.
The technology in the exhibition delivered in partnership with Soluis was truly impressive! If you would like a chance to see the exhibition it will be on show on the Rockfield Centre, Oban from 30th July- 20th August as part of the Oban Festival of Architecture. It will then be going on show elsewhere in Scotland- check out the A+DS website for updates.
