In celebration of Scotland's first Rural Parliament in Oban, a competition was launched to recognise innovative businesses and organisations in Scotland that were improving rural lives by tackling priority issues.
Roots were selected to represent the 'Land Use, Planning & Land Reform' category in the final and were invited to present their work at the evening celebrations opening the Rural Parliament in Oban. The finalists were a very inspiring and tenacious group of people who had taken on such challenges as providing internet connections and establishing a community shop where services were badly needed.
By popular vote, the overall winner of the awards was Stramash- a fantastic organisation that provide opportunities for young people to engage in watersports activities.

The Rural Parliament was a very engaging event and offered lots of opportunities for cross sector debate on issues affecting rural Scotland- well worth the trip!
