This renovation project to a local fishing harbour will be transformative to the lives of those who work there.
The facilities at Milton Harbour have deteriorated significantly over the years to the point that the working environment is unsafe and unfit for purpose.
Roots were appointed by Tiree Community Development Trust to assist local fishermen in developing a proposal to upgrade existing infrastructure and enhance the existing facilities. This included a proposed fish processing and storage shed to provide shelter, a car park, and upgrading works to the road and pier to improve safety and access.
It was very important that the development would blend in with the landscape and we made efforts to minimise the visual impact of the development. Planning Permission has now been granted for the proposal and a grant has been awarded by the Scottish Land Fund to take the project forward.
Our role in project has given us insight into the impact that investment at this scale can have on the daily lives of locals.
